Eyeglass Prescriptions Becoming More Accurate Than Ever Before

Two new machines for eye doctors have recently been released that are revolutionizing the eye industry: The i.Profiler plus and the i.Scription. The i.Profiler plus is capable of measuring eye fractions down to 1/100 of a diopter, whereas standard eye test machines only go to 1/25.

The i.Profiler also measures other individual eye discrepancies, which it sends to the i.Scription to compute the eyeglass subscription. Many patients are receiving 20/16 to 20/13 vision, which is far better than standard 20/20.

A more accurate prescription can drastically improve night vision and reading vision. The i.Profiler plus can identify eye aberrations, corneal problems, and other eye problems that eyeglasses can help correct. This innovative technology is being compared to HD vision for eyeglass wearers.

Not all doctors are carrying the new i.Profiler or i.Scription, check with your local eye doctor to see if they have it in office.

Oakley Donates Sunglasses to Chilean Miners

Always thinking ahead of the curve, Oakley eyewear company donated 35 pairs of sunglasses to the miners who were trapped in the cave. What do trapped miners need sunglasses for, you say? After being without sunlight for an extended period of time, the pupils become overly dilated to compensate for the lack of light. Once the the miners were set free, direct  sunlight to their dilated pupils would cause severe UV damage to their eyes. Hence the need for sunglasses, and that’s where Oakley stepped in.

According to a statement Oakley released, a Chilean journalist had contacted the company to address the potential problem and a possible solution: donate some shades. Never one to pass up a great PR campaign, Oakley donated 35 pairs of Radars with Path and Range lens shapes, which cover all sides of the eyes. The sunglasses are also 100% UV protective. All of the miners’ sunglasses came in black as well. Want some Oakley Radars of your own? You can find them here.

Witch Contact Lenses for Halloween Costumes

If you’re really interested in making this Halloween costume one that your friends and family and pretty much anyone who will see you will remember, then using witch contact lenses for Halloween costumes might be a good idea for you. These witch contact lenses for Halloween Costumes really allow you to customize your costumes and you don’t even need to be dressing as a witch to use the witch contact lenses for Halloween costumes for costumes. They go great with many other costume designs, too.

You can get witch contact lenses for Halloween costumes from anyone who is authorized by the FDA to sell them to you but you should make sure that they ask you for a prescription. Due to this, you need to go see your eye doctor before purchasing them as you need to be able to get the proper prescription even if you don’t regularly wear contact lenses.

Getting contact lenses just for Halloween can really help to draw your outfit together but at the same time it is an expensive purchase to make simply for a costume, especially if you aren’t going to be entering into any costume contests or the like. For this reason, and this reason only, you should definitely think about considering what you may be interested in dressing as next year or whether or not you will be able to use the colored special effects contacts with some other costume if you need to just so that you know you aren’t spending a good deal of money or something that you will only be using once.

There are many different types of contacts, not just witch contact lenses for Halloween costumes. If you’re interested in being a cat then they have cat eye lenses but if you’re really into the Twilight series then you can get eyes like Edward Cullen or like the new vampires in New Moon. There are many different ways to change around your costume and make it unique but nothing is quite like having a colored special effect contact lens.

Video Sunglasses from Vuzix

The future is here, and that is more than apparent with tech company Vuzix’s new digital video sunglasses. The sunglass line, called Wrap, has 4 different models: Wrap 230, Wrap 310, Wrap 920, and Wrap 920AR. These sunglasses have different functionalities, but their main purpose is to bring the high-tech digital video of movies, television and Internet into the portable view of sunglasses.

Wrap 230

This model connects to almost and video device, such as an iPhone, and enables the wearer to see multiple types of video, including 2D and 3D. Just plug the sunglasses into your phone or other device, put in your earbuds and enjoy all the qualities of a home theater.

Wrap 310

This model is like the 230, but offers its viewing screen in a 16:9 widescreen format.

Wrap 920

This is Vuzix’s most highly technological model available and offers a huge 67-inch virtual screen as seen from 10 feet.

Wrap 920AR

This model is the real kicker. It’s just like the 920, but it also has two cameras on the outside of lenses showing the real world. The strange part is that the camera lens merges with the video capabilities and “brings mixed and augmented reality to life.” I’m not even sure exactly what that means, but it sounds mind blowing.

These innovative shades are available online in most countries, and range in price from $169 to $349. You can find out more about these digital sunglasses here.

Sunglasses Save Woman’s Eyesight from Acid Attack

When most of us think of sunglasses saving our eyesight, we think of UV protection, blocking the sun, preventing skin cancer and things of that nature. Not blocking liquid acid from melting your face. Unfortunately, earlier this week a woman had to deal with this exact scenario.

Bethany Storro, a resident of Vancouver, Washington, was on her way to Starbucks around 7pm, when a strange woman asked her, “Hey pretty girl, do you want a drink of this?” and showed her a cup full of liquid. When Storro refused the drink, the woman threw the cup in her face and splashed Storro with some sort of acid. The acid started melting her skin and clothes instantly.

Storro had just purchased a pair of sunglasses 20 minutes earlier. The irony is that she has never worn sunglasses regularly, but the shades she had just purchased moments ago literally saved her eyesight. Storro’s eyes are the only part of her face that didn’t suffer from 2nd degree burns.

Storro is currently recovering in the hospital, and her attacker has yet to be identified. Another ironic aspect of the sunglasses is that Storro has been mostly deaf since her childhood, and relies mainly on her vision for communicating and day-to-day life. If it wasn’t for the sunglasses, Storro’s two main senses might have been gone for good.

Personally, I find it truly amazing that the acid didn’t melt straight through sunglasses. Most shades bought at department stores are made for physical protection, Storro is incredibly lucky. I’m sure she’s counting her blessings, the event could’ve been much worse. Hopefully her attacker will be caught soon.

MayBach Sunglasses: Luxury Eyewear for the Connoisseur

Ever heard of Maybach cars? No? Probably because they only sold 200 automobiles last year. You might think that makes them a boutique auto company, but their German factory has the ability to produce 2000 cars a year. That means slow sales for this high-end auto manufacturer, and when sales are slow, you accessorize.

MayBach sent out a press release this week stating that they are now heading into the world of eyewear. These cars sell for nearly half a mil, so you can imagine what the price tag on the sunglasses must be. According to their press release though, whatever the price is the shades are well worth it. 18k gold, hand-crafted leather, and fine wood are just a few of the exquisite materials used to design these A-list sunglasses. They’ll be available this October with custom jobs to boot. Here are a few pics below and my marketing slogan: “Maybach sunglasses, for those who appreciate (and can afford) the finer things in life.”

Over-the-top Sunglasses

When you revel in the world of eyewear, such as I, occasionally you come across some attempts at eye fashion that’ll make your jaw drop and and your eyes bulge out. Being the conservatively fashionable person that I am, I could never see myself in a pair of these (unless it was Halloween or I was Star Trek fan). Regardless, there are those out there that are more fashionably risqué than I, and here are some of the sunglasses that they dare to wear.

Maison Martin Margiela – Incognito PE09
I recently ran across an online pic of Kim Kardashian wearing these, and my first thought was, “Why would she want to cover up that beautiful face?” These shades look like they belong in the newest Tron movie rather than a Hollywood celebrity’s mug.

CCTV Color Sport Sunglasses Camera w/Integrated DVR 640×480
For the peeping tom, paranoid schizophrenic or soviet spy.

Urban Spectacles – Granadillo
Wooden…handcuff-looking…leather straps…I’m so confused by these I don’t know where to start.

Maison Martin Margiela – Incognito PE08
More zaniness from the triple M. Wanna look like a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica? Then these are the sunglasses for you.
