Computer Vision
Computers have become an indispensable part of our social and working life, and considerably more time today is spent looking at computer screens. Also known as a video display terminal, the harmful effect on the eyes and vision from prolonged looking at such screens has been significant, and a new vision condition called computer vision syndrome (CVS) has emerged.

Optometrists say that CVS is characterized by visual symptoms which result from interaction with a computer display or its environment. In most cases, the symptoms arising from CVS occur because the visual demands of the task exceed the visual abilities of the individual to comfortably perform the task.

A survey of optometrists indicated that 10 million primary eye care examinations are provided annually in the United States because of visual problems at video terminal displays. This is no small public health concern.

Fortunately, intensive and ongoing research provides methods of treatment and eyewear that can prevent or cure computer vision syndrome and make your computer activity a productive and enjoyable experience.
